What happens when the United States is closed ? We call for you to show us — to fascinate both areas shut down by the regime and just random thing you found empty , rusted , and closed . And from here , the US looks like a post - apocalyptic wasteland .
WINNER : The National Parks Are Closed
So aboveboard , this is a pretty rotten picture , but we found it pretty amusing . We were doing a tour of Philadelphia and were rifle through Independence Mall and discover that everything was shut out down because of the Government Shutdown . I took a picture of the sign by itself at the Liberty Bell and the guard run into me and asked if he could pose for a pic . The safety machine have to bear watch and verify no one sneak into the closed monument without pay . This is what he did . defender of the Liberty Bell Pentax K100D , 1/90s f/9.5 , 33 mm 3200 iso

The Veteran ’s Memorial Is unsympathetic
I bump to be in D.C.area visit a friend for his now ironic gradation from the NSA but due to the government closing his ceremonial was cancelled . So to lionise the occasion we hit the territorial dominion for some sure-enough fashioned cold beers . Afterwards we walked around for some rubber-necking and come across this signage in front of the WWII Veteran ’s Memorial with the Lincoln Memorial in the background as the sun was go down . Despite the obvious Site is Closed and do not insert signage , the great unwashed still managed to slip in for a few photo ops . Thought it was fitting and double-dyed for the Gizmodo contest . lamentably , this was a common sight throughout D.C. The dig was taken during “ charming hour ” using my Samsung Galaxy S4 twist at 3264×1836 resolving with ISO set at Auto and shot in using build - in HDR modality , make clean up and delete using Aviary android app .

The Liberty Bell Is Closed
So this photo was ingest at the Liberty Bell . All around the building were armed security guards who would not say a word to anyone . It had the tone of a flick like V for Vendetta . There was still a line to have pictures taken with the Melville Bell though a window . These sign were all over Philadelphia . This was shot with a Nikon D2x with and 18mm-55 millimeter lens system . The Swing Set Is Rusty ( But Technically assailable )
Nikon D7000 Using Sigma 17 - 70 mm F2.8 - 4.0 17.0 mm f2.8 @ 1/1600 ISO 100 I came to this park to shoot the nearby pocket billiards , but I could n’t quite get the shot I wanted without break dance padlock . I took notice of all the playground equipment that was rotting away from pitiful maintenance and neglect and figured I could do something there alternatively . I tried first with the lively - go - beat and get some good shots , but something was miss . I go away to the swings and take a couple test snap . The alignment of the swings with their offset shadow made for some good report . I wanted to do a piddling more so I gave one of the swings a push and fire away . This is my favourite shot from the excursion . There is something a piddling untune about seeing an empty jive in movement on a rust old swingset .

The Tuk Tuk Is Closed ( Though Not The Thailand Government ’s Fault )
A rusting and abandoned Tuk Tuk pose forlornly by the side of a route . The classifiable shape of the front is unique to Ayutthaya in Thailand . To be honest I can not find any way of pick any Government for this . shoot done on a very red-hot humid sunless day with the scourge of implosion therapy from the nearby river imminent . I did a little cropping and lift the saturation level a bit to bestow out some of the colour otherwise it is unmoved . take on my new Nikon Coolpix S6600 bought as a garish replenishment for a camera which had a swimming in a dissimilar flood and did n’t care it . f/3.3 , 1/640 2d , ISO-125

workplace Is closed in ( But It ’s Just The Weekend )
I prefer used a level from my company that is in the process of being abandoned as it will be no longer be needed . So the picture you see here is what an post space looks like while it ’s in flux , between a nation of performance and a State Department of complete shutdown wherein all the furniture has been charge down . I would have loved to fast forward a few hebdomad and mystify a shot with wires and cables of all sorts strewn across the office trading floor and with electrical line advert down from the ceiling , but alas , that is not the picture I would be able to take this particular weekend . As I got onto the floor and surveyed which area I would want to take the gibe from , I opted to keep the light attached to the main brightness level switch by the floor entrance on . I walked to the end of the trading floor and lined up a shot that would show the intact length of one side of the function . I wanted to be in a sport where there was very little light in the foreground and let the twinkle from the hall straighten out the far setting of the function . It took a few locating to get a linear perspective I really wish , and the destruction result is what you have before you . This was shot on my Canon t4i using my 18 - 55 mm lens ( focused around 23 mm ) and using an f - check of 3.5 , a shutter swiftness of 1/100 and ISO of 800 .

Wow , I think that shot of a ( internal parks employee ? ) flipping the bird as an surplus fuck you cherry on top of the closed mansion is amongst my favoriteShooting Challengeimages ever . And whenever plan the government agrees on , well I hope it include a raise for that nationalist . The bird is above and beyond , especially during a furlough .
