They ’re quixotic and inherently a bit melancholy . Black and blanched city portraits have a flare for the overdramatic , and for this week’sShooting Challenge , you captured all of the simple charm and deep intensity of your city .
Winner: Manila
When I drop dead out to shoot for this hebdomadary contest . I looked for buildings with expectant lines and shadows , thing that would see great when converted into dim and ashen . But then , midway through , i realized only assume pictures of buildings is nt what a Manila is have intercourse for . We had a fantastic time in the heat energy and as we were heading back to the railway car I saw the white water tower against a virtually clear blue sky . I involve the attached dig . Thessaloniki
Morning in the city of Thessaloniki , in Greece . This is the clip to enjoy an empty - street city as lots of citizenry are on vacation at Chalkidiki . Photo taken from the Seich - Sou forest which surround the city , perfect for mountain - biking and other summercater activities . There are a lot of monuments , statue and other tourist attractions in the city , but I opt film the core of the city , where masses subsist and stick out due to the economic crisis . As one can see from this flick , concrete is everywhere , ruling our lives . Even in a Black&White picture , the absence seizure of dark-green color is obvious . Perhaps in the future we manage to vary our doctrine , slow up down our rythmes and recall of how we can ameliorate our life , spending less and doing more ! Nikon D5000 f/22 , 1/100sec , ISO 200 , in Aperture antecedence modal value , tripod Nikon AF - S Nikkor 70 - 300 mm Lens 1:4.5 - 5.6G.

Shanghai
I was in Shanghai on business organisation and had a couple “ dwell ” days between project , so I range Shanghai with an ultra - wide slant lens system taking street photograph . This photo is of the famous telecasting Tower in the Pudong section of Shanghai . There ’s an elevated circular pavement that allows pedestrians to compass the adjacent intersection . I lined - up the tower so it was frame by the bottom of the pavement . The fisheye lens of the eye amplify the effect of the round half - frame . I like to spud architecture in smutty and white because it has a more graphical look . It was nearly 100 degrees in the shade that Clarence Day and I was drop sweat all over my camera . I was favorable I did n’t drip on the lens and ruin the shot . 8 mm Fisheye ( full manual ) , ISO : 100 , Shutter : 1/1600 @ f5.6 , television camera : Nikon D7000 , Processing : convert to BW using NIK filter / flattened slenderly using Lens Correction filter in PS

I love cityscapes in black and snowy . My whole knight bachelor pad is covered in all black and white photos of unlike cities , bridges and structures from various time period . It fascinates me how constant this world is and how we just add up and go , but these structures live on far longer than us . If only they could let the cat out of the bag , what a story they would tell . I ’m no serious photographer , but I do it taking the exposure I post in my house , so I was activated to go and attempt to capture the awesome city that is NYC for the first metre . The highlighting of my trip was a helicopter drive ( LOVE helicopter , thanks BF3 ) around the city from which I could get a chance see what my novel Canon Rebel T2i could really do . I could visualize this shot in my head before we even took off , now to just put it in manual mode and see what I get . FAIL ! I ’m no pro ( yet ) and I ’ve still get a lot to study before I truly understand the challenging professing of a true lensman . Thankfully , canyon makes a very becoming machine mode and I could still appropriate the shot I wanted for my dining room wall . New York City . For a boy from Indiana , I certainly could feel the energy of this urban center from the moment the cab was cut across the Williamsburg Bridge . I was blown forth with the apparent horizon that filled my peripheral vision . Finally , a place where I can get ‘ lose ’ . I knew I was in for an experience like none other . That s the flavour I remember when I look at this photo . It ’s my refuge , my place of purdah . I can just see myself down there amongst the deafen ocean of people , engulfed by the elephantine pillar they have make , and it bring me peace … canyon EOS Rebel T2i , EF - S 18 - 35 mm f/3.5 - 5.6 IS . ISO 100 | 18 mm | 0EV | f/11 | 1/160

Edinburgh
It was a sunny summers day in Edinburgh ( Scotland ) which is a rare thing ! I fell asleep early by accident but when I wake up it was around 11 pm and I decided to take hold of the camera and head up out down to the docks to see if I could capture something . I discover the Prince of Wales tail and managed to get a nice snap using the old dash lighting and the old train rail which used to bring goods to and from the dockage . Taken with a Canon 40D using a Canon 16 - 35 mm f2.8L II USM at 16 mm , ISO 160 and a 3.2s exposure .

Penang
When I was walking after a arduous pelting , within the inheritance zona here in my city Penang , this edifice caught my tending as it portraits the pre - 2d - world - warfare architecture , combine by modern buildings and automobiles at the far conclusion of the street . The first couplet of shots were average because something was miss in it , a subject . So I support there and waited . At last , there was this old lady , traditionally garmented and wheel by the building with an old bicycle . When I hit on the shutter I bed that this is going to be THE shot . We ’ve always dillydally about participating in one of these challenges , so on our manner home , camera battery dying , we shoot a few pictures … 99 % of them being food waste except this . The only editing I did was to adjust the spirit level , harvest , and well as the obvious B&W in photoshop . I have a Nikon D3100 with a 18 - 55 mm lens . The metadata for the pic is ISO 360 , f/7.1 , 1/2000 .
