In November 1911 , Marie Sk?odowska - Curie was workweek away from being grant the Nobel Prize in Chemistry . She   received her first Nobel in 1903 for   Physics , and the new   laurels intend that she was the first person ever to get two Prizes . She remains   the only person to be recognized in two different sciences . Though her over-the-top work as a scientist should have been all anyone cared about , it seemed that many were preoccupied with her personal life history .

Pierre Curie break in 1906 , leave behind Marie as a widow . A few years later , she becameromantically involvedwith physicist Paul Langevin , who had been a doctoral bookman of Pierre ’s . Though Langevin was carve up from his wife , they were still technically married . The kinship   stimulate troubles in the Langevin dwelling house , but that was nothing compared towhat was aboutto spill over into the public centre .

Curie , Langevin , and about 20 other scientist were invited to an elect , invitation - only league in Brussels in the downslope of 1911 . During this time , love letters between Curie and Langevin had been given to members of the medium by Langevin ’s wife , who present Curie as an evil homewrecker . When Curie return home to France after the league , she was recognize by a mob that surrounded her menage and terrified Curie ’s daughters , who were only 7 and 14 years old at the time .
