Amy Robachhad a lot to explain to her daughters as her relationship withT.J. Holmesbeganmaking major headlines.
The formerGMA3: What You Need to Knowco-anchors, who released the first episode of their iHeartRadio podcast,Amy & T.J., explained what it was like to tell their families about the relationship as the chaos of the situation going public unfolded.
“A lot of this had to do with us trying to get our own homes in order. Look, a lot of damage that was done; it’s not even about the marriages — that’s tough enough to go through a divorce. We were trying to get our kids settled and trying to get our kids to understand why we didn’t tell everybody what was going on with us ahead of time,” Holmes, 46, said.
“That work continues,” he admitted. “That’s in a much better place than it was, but it took a lot of work. The first ‘I’m sorries’ and apologies, the first ones went to Sabine [his 10-year-old daughter with exMarilee Fiebig Holmes] and your daughters for just not telling them ahead of time.”
“I’m still saying I’m sorry,” Robach, 50, said of her daughters, Annalise, 17, and Ava, 20, whom she shares with her ex-husband, Tim McIntosh. “It’s one thing for us to deal with the press and the headlines and the paparazzi that have become as much a part of our lives as anything.”

“When I’m with my children, with my daughters, they’re there and their pictures are being taken,” Robach noted. “I just try to put myself in their shoes. It’s their family and they’re so young. They don’t have the tools or the life experience to even really be able to put it in perspective.”
“It’s been a hard, hard journey that will continue,” Robach said, adding, “We’re all in therapy.”
Holmes is also dad to daughter Brianna and son Jaiden from his previous marriage to Amy Ferson.

The two also felt it was important to clear the air about the timeline of their respective previous relationships in relation to their current relationship.
“Nov. 30, 2022, was the day that we were, and this is very important, we were outed… To be clear, we were outed as being in a relationship, but everyone else thought we were being outed as adulterers — being outed as cheating on our spouses — and it wasn’t the case because the odd thing is, the day those pictures were taken and the day that article was released, we both at that point were in divorce proceedings," Holmes said.
“Yes, we had attorneys, mediators. We were in the middle of divorces,” Robach confirmed, noting that her ex-husband,Andrew Shue, 56, “had already moved out of the house” three months before the first photo was taken of her and Holmes together on Nov. 10.

He said on the podcast that he had “been living alone” without his ex-wife, 45, since the summer, and the first photographs taken of him leaving a building was not where he “shared a home” with her. However, the former anchor also conceded that he believes they made some mistakes with the way they handled things.
“We shouldn’t have allowed, [and] I can say that in hindsight, for folks to find out about our relationship before they found out about our divorces,” he admitted. “If people would have heard earlier that ‘they’re in a relationship, now they’re dating,’ maybe an eyebrow would have been raised or something, but it wouldn’t have become what it became.”
