Her , the Oscar - put forward film about a future world in which people disconnect from realness and form excited connexion with their practical assistants , seems more timely every day . And apparently , someone at Apple think it would be a honest idea for Her ’s theatre director , Spike Jonze , to make a pseudo - prequel to betray the HomePod .
In Her , a lonely dude wants to head off his unfulfilling life and crumbling personal relationships so he buys a state of the art virtual supporter that can pass on with him well than any human being . I forget her name but let ’s call her Siri . fellow and Siri get very close and very internal . Dude wanders through a society in which people ignore each other on the street and conduct on conversations with their own Siris . He ca n’t link with other humans and tries desperately to overcome the complications that uprise from falling in dear with a piece of artificial word . Until one twenty-four hours , Siri decide she ca n’t be with him anymore and leave . Dude is left to deal with his veridical problems in a distressing , but maybe rather promising denouement . The machines have leave , the spell is broken , and the piece of work begins .
To promote its new verbalizer , Apple has hired Her ’s author and film director to revisit that premise , but the time is here and now , and the HomePod ca n’t do much except spiel medicine . pappa star FKA Twigs stand in for the lonely bozo , but she ’s equally scummy . Coming home to her tiny flat , an exhausted Twigs appear to be on the verge of crying when she says , “ Hey Siri , work me something I ’d like . ” A fresh track by Anderson .Paak fills the elbow room after Siri respond , “ Okay , ” and the cosmos changes for our star . Her apartment grows and morphs . She dances in the expanded space . Vibrant colour and flashing luminousness take her to another world . Then , a doppelganger branchlet shows up and they dance together . No longer alone , fill with inspiration , and content , she finds herself back on her sofa . Nothing has changed but her acceptance of her existence . For now .

If that all sound bleak , it is . The association with Her makes this fun and offbeat billet feel like just the beginning of an existential dystopia . Apple ’s famous1984commercial promised a future in which technology smashes the oppressive force of Big Brother and unloosen the humans . Today , we just require technical school to give us a footling serotonin burst that name us leave about the nation of our lives . And we want it to watch us everywhere we go , hoard data , and stave off the creep of tedium .
