It ’s been well document that AT&T ’s 4 1000 sound are n’t just obtuse — their upload speeds areoften slower than its 3 G web . So what bechance to that extra g-force ? turn out it ’s not the electronic connection itself that ’s borked ; it ’s the phone . AT&T has intentionally crippled theMotorola AtrixandHTC Inspire — the attack aircraft carrier ’s only fourth - gen web phones — by actively disabling the French telephone ’ HSUPA capability . Gross . But there may be sweet relief coming soon .

AT&T says that they ’ll actuate HSUPA in the Inspire and Atrix in April with a software update , according to Wired , and that the Samsung Infuse 4 G will launch with HSUPA turned on . Why the delay at all ? They ’re ostensibly performing “ the testing and preparations necessary ” for mass to savor the HSUPA experience .

Just to reiterate : the Atrix and Inspire are presumably fully open of achieving the 5.5 + Mbps focal ratio promise by HUSPA , but until AT&T flips that switch they ’re stuck with an sticky 300 Kbps upload speed . It ’s smashing that 4 yard may be amply functional soon ! Both both speech sound have been advertised and sold since launch as 4 G devices . And it ’s not like AT&T monish multitude in advance that their fancy new 4 universal gravitational constant handset may well be dense than their old one .
It ’s reliable that the definition of 4Gis a moving target , essentially a slightly different fable told by each newsboy . But being HSUPA - open does n’t make a headphone 4 G if that HSUPA is disabled . You know what other devices are HSUPA - quick ? The iPhone 4 . iPad 2 . And no one ’s slap a 4 G recording label on them .

When I buy a loaf of bread of bread , I do n’t anticipate to see a chunk of unsanded dough in the bag . And that ’s what AT&T ’s selling right now : “ 4 G ” earphone that are half - parched , at best . [ Wired ]
