Evelyn Lozadaand herQueens Courtfinalist, Lavon Lewis, have ended their engagement.
In a joint statement to PEOPLE, the former couple confirmed their split aftergetting engagedon the first season finale of the Peacock reality series, which aired in March.
“As we started to plan our future together, we began to realize that we are two different people, good people, but different,” the statement read. “Our relationship was beautiful and we love each other but we mutually agreed that we are best as friends.”
TheBasketball Wivesstar, 47, recently shared that distance was a factor in the couple’s breakup.
“Things went so fast. Six months later we were engaged, and I just felt a little bit of a disconnect,” she toldUs Weekly. “And the distance he lives in Atlanta, that was another thing that was really, really difficult.”

She continued, “He has a son that is, I believe, in his first year of high school or going to high school. It was a lot of moving parts and it just started becoming difficult, and I was just like, ‘I don’t want to keep this going just for the world.’”
The reality star noted that if a relationship “doesn’t feel a hundred percent, it just doesn’t feel a hundred percent.” In her situation, she explained that she and Lewis are “from two different places. I’m from the Bronx, New York. He’s from Alabama. So, there was a little disconnect there too.”
Lozada admitted that having limited time with the contestants onQueens Courtalso played a role in the couple’s split, explaining, “Everything’s going fast. You’re asking 1,000,001 questions when you’re dating these different guys on the show. And we tried to spend as much time as we could. He would travel here to L.A. at least once a month.”
She added that she felt “anxiety” while wedding planning due to her brief marriage to NFL playerChad “OchoCino” Johnsonin 2012.
“When I was married before, I was a newlywed and a divorcée at the same time. I divorced 42 days later. So, I didn’t know that I was going to have anxiety about getting married again,” she shared.

The VH1 star said the pair are leaving the relationship on good terms, sharing, “I’m just happy that we’re able to just be mature and friends.”
“I hope he finds an amazing woman. I’ll be at his wedding. He is a great person,” she added. “I’m just happy that he’s not bitter or we’re not in a negative space. I feel like all breakups don’t have to end up like that.”
Lozada revealed that the split will play out on the new season ofBasketball Wivesafter shereturnedto the show following a two-year hiatus. She admitted she was “crying with Shaunie [O’Neal] at her event because that was the beginning of the end of my relationship with him.”
Lozada and Lewis got engaged in the first season finale of Peacock’sQueens Court, which also sawJeremy “JR” Robinsonpop the question toTamar Braxton. The couple also confirmedtheir splitearlier this month.
Lozada didn’t expect the proposal, even though she and Lewis talked in the past about tying the knot, previously telling PEOPLE, “I didn’t know that he was going to propose that day.”
“I didn’t know what I was walking into,” she said. “He was being very sneaky and, in all honesty, I was a little irritated because I’m such an alpha female and I’m kind of like, why do I have to pack? Why do I have to do this? It was really, really difficult for me to just let go and allow him to do his thing.”
Lewis also called Lozada “the most amazing woman I’ve met” — and he didn’t even believe he’d find love on the show.
“Before the show started, I told my friends that I don’t believe in the process,” he told PEOPLE. “I came on the show thinking, ‘They called me, this is a new adventure. It’ll be fun. I’m a pretty private, introverted person, but why not do something new? You can’t find love in this type of process? It’s impossible?'”
“I would challenge people to think outside of the box and have faith and push themselves,” he added. “I didn’t think I would go into it and come out of it with a wife. But look at what happens when you open yourself up and challenge yourself and step up to the plate.”
