Disney Channel announced plans last month to make over the witchy classic Hocus Pocus as a TV movie . And while the director of the original , Kenny Ortega , hasvoiced his support , Bette Midler is not what you would call on board with the project .
“ I know it ’s cheap . It ’s move to be tatty ! ” she separate People Magazine yesterday , at the New York Restoration Project ’s Hulaween party , an event hosted by Midler .
The actress also verbalize dubiety that Disney could find someone to do jurist to her character in the film , the eldest of the three beldam sisters and their leader after they ’re resurrected in the modern day . “ I ’m not sure what they ’re go to do with my character , ” she say . “ My character is very , very broad and I do n’t know who they ’re going to find to play that . ”
So it ’s safe to say Midler wo n’t be making a cameo appearance — in fact , her only response to the musical theme was , “ No , no , no ! ” according to People . And her agnosticism is passably warrant . A television receiver picture is n’t exactly the most glamorous resurrection ( though it does scramble being bring back to life in an one-time bungalow by some toughie kid ) , and conductor Kenny Ortega wo n’t be drive the reign back for this new edition of the story .
The young Hocus Pocus , which has no release day of the month as of yet , will be indite by Scarlett Lacy ( of The Royals ) and directed by David Kirschner . No word on who will be play the lead witches , either , though we at least now have a honorable idea of who wo n’t be playing them .
