While the simplest way to distinguish the raw moving picture Sea Fever is “ Alien on the sea , ” let ’s get something out of the way . It is not Alien on the sea . Okay , yes , Sea Fever is about a mathematical group of people on a ship who lead off to be picked off by a mysterious creature . Also , like Alien , Sea Fever has an incredible confidential information character played by an up - and - come actress . But Sea Fever takes Alien ’s deoxyribonucleic acid and ground it in realness , constructing a way to make such a scenario really plausible . It ’s creepy-crawly and entertaining , but never quite rise above that .
Hermione Corfield play Siobhán , a scholar who joins a family sportfishing sauceboat to do research for her doctor’s degree . She ’s insanely smart but unsure and restrained , a demeanor that instantly find out of place with this nigh - knit radical of people who ’ve obviously been making a living together for years . That crew is lead by Freya and Gerard ( Connie Nielsen and Dougray Scott ) who , after a impression out period , begin to accept Siobhán into their jury-rigged crime syndicate . And just about then is when they get stick dead in the water by some mysterious force .

One of the most peculiar thing about Sea Fever is that nothing stays a enigma for long . The crew figures out what ’s hold the ship in place instantly . Even when a major event commence to uncover a much more deadly upshot , Siobhán is onwards of the curved shape and strategizes how to fight this menace . What ’s less easy for her is figure out how to stop it .
Written and directed by Neasa Hardiman , Sea Fever keep the hearing engage from framing one . The script does n’t waste a scene in advancing the taradiddle , building relationship , or developing reference . And yet , the film never deviates from that sluggish and steadfast impulse . There ’s one self-aggrandizing punctuation in the middle of the movie and yet , beyond that , the motion picture unfolds at a relatively even keel . So , by the end , when we expect a big face-off or grand climax , it ’s not there .
That ’s in part because Corfield is so damn respectable as Siobhán . She ’s created a eccentric so talented and strong that even if she ca n’t get the better of the evil , she ’s almost always outwitting it . In a way , the grapheme is too near for this story . She keeps everything in check and , as a result , the movie stays in check too .

Sea Fever is ultra claustrophobic.Photo: (Fantastic Fest)
You ’ll like Sea Fever . It ’s well - made and harbour to watch , but very little of it sticks with you . Corfield ’s performance does , as does the claustrophobic setting and a few choice shot across the picture show but , beyond that , it feel like a movie we ’ve seen before — done well , but we ’ve seen better .
Sea Fever had its U.S. premiere at Fantastic Fest 2019 . It does not have a tone ending particular date .
