As reported bythe Hollywood Reporter , Ness , the YA author behind the booksChaos Walkingand A Monster Calls is work with Luca Guadagnino to produce a Modern adaption of William Golding ’s Lord of the Flies . The 1954 novel , which is technically sci - fi and peradventure a little moment of phantasy , too , depending on your rendering , features the survivor of a planing machine crash on a derelict hobo camp island . The survivors , all British boys , build a microcosm of civilization and then the al-Qur’an inside information that civilization ’s gory , savage collapse . His tenure in celluloid has been more miscellaneous . He wrote the screenplay for the adaption of Monster Calls , which was relatively well received . But the adaptation of Chaos Walking was less … favorable . The photographic film , starring Tom Holland and Daisy Ridley , was reportedly “ unreleasable ” in its original state and has undergone extensive reshoots , now slated for departure in 2021 .
