TheWickedstar, 38, wore her most witchy look of allon March 2. For the Academy Awards, Erivo stepped out in a custom Louis Vuitton ballgown made of dark green velvet with exaggerated hips, shouldersanda pointed collar. All together, it combined for a dress befitting the Wicked Witch of the West.

During the E! preshow, Erivo said she and her stylist, Jason Bolden “worked on this [look] for a little while.” She added that she wanted to nod to Oz, green and Old Hollywood. Zanna Roberts Rassi added that Bolden told her that it was also an ode to Hattie McDaniel, the first Black person to win an Oscar. She won Best Supporting Actress in 1940 for her role inGone with the Wind.

On Wednesday, Feb. 26, Academy Awards executive producer Katy Mullan shared with reporters during the 97th Oscars Creative Team press conference that Erivo will be celebrated with “a very special moment in the show.”

“I think that Cynthia delivered an incredible performance this year and there is a very special moment on the show. We can’t reveal what it is or where it is,” Mullan said. “I think that any fans of Cynthia Erivo, you’re going to get something that is hugely entertaining and full of joy and really celebrates her, her incredible talent and her place in the last year in music.”

At the Globes, the star wore a custom Louis Vuitton black halter gown featuring silver sequin floral embellishments paired with a dramatic, structured waist that appeared to defy gravity. However, the true showstopper was Erivo’s manicure, which featured gemstones and mix of purple and green hues. The impressive mani took five hours to complete.
“I didn’t do this morning, but my wonderful manicurist did it,” she revealed to E!’s Zuri Hall. Dior used five OPI nail polish shades for the complex look, including the cobalt blue shade,Fiyero’s My Mani, from theWickedcollection.

Erivo opted for a totally different style when she stepped out at the NAACP Image Awards earlier this month. Instead of wearing another gown, she chose a sleek, fitted Dolce & Gabbana pinstripe suit, which she paired with a white dress shirt and black tie. She accessorized her look with three pins on her lapel: a red flower with a silver stem, a gold and silver cross and a third star-shaped design in gold.
