An assistant coach for the Dallas Mavericks has been accused of hitting his girlfriend with a gun, according to reports.
At around 3:45 a.m. local time on Saturday, Feb. 15, Dallas police were called to the 1000 block of Ross Avenue, according to local publicationThe Dallas Morning News.Darrell Armstrong, 56, was arrested and charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon at the scene, having allegedly hit a woman with a gun and threatened to shoot her, per the outlet.
The victim — who was identified as his girlfriend in an arrest warrant affidavit, perThe Dallas Morning News— allegedly left the apartment and went to call her family and police after being struck on the right side of her face. Per the outlet, Armstrong had been drinking in their shared apartment when an argument broke out about him receiving a text from another woman.

Dallas Fire Rescue treated her at the scene,CBS Newsreported.
A spokesperson for the Dallas Mavericks revealed in a statement to the outlet that they were aware of an incident “involving a member of our staff.”
“We take this matter seriously. The employee has been placed on administrative suspension pending the outcome of legal proceedings,” the statement read, per CBS News.

The Dallas Mavericks, Dallas Police, Dallas Fire Rescue and the NBA didn’t immediately respond to PEOPLE’s request for comment on Monday, Feb. 17.
Armstong — who has since posted bond — had a 14-year NBA playing career and joined the Dallas coaching staff in 2008-09. He is now in his 10th season as an assistant coach with the Mavericks.
“We are in the preliminary stages of conducting our own independent investigation into the circumstances surrounding yesterday’s incident involving my client Darrell Armstrong,” Larry Taylor, a managing partner with the Cochran Firm, told CBS News in a statement. “We will have more to say about this incident in the coming days.”
