Goddamn . How can you not loveMinute Physics? This week , Henry Reich excuse a fellowship of mote that are the talk of the town of the physic world : neutrino !
Neutrinos have been in the newsworthiness a plenty lately . Remember that experimentation at CERN where scientist claimed to observe particlestravelling faster than light? Those were neutrinos . But since the result of that field has yet to be confirmed , Reich focalize his video on what we ’re sure we jazz about this home ofleptons .
Faster Than Light Particles Could Wreck Einstein ’s Relativity hypothesis

Here ’s a small backcloth to help you get into the television : The neutrino was first hypothesise in 1932 by Wolfgang Pauli . Scientists had added up the mass and charge on either side of equating describing nuclear radioactive decay and find that they descend out adequate . But new ontogeny in quantum mechanics suggested that atom in nuclear radioactive decay also had a holding they calledspin — kind of like a planet rotating on its axis . When Pauli took this new development into account , his equations did n’t tally up . Spin was n’t husband , therefore energy was n’t either . WTF ? Pauli ’s conclusion : that another type of particle must be a intersection of atomic decay , accounting for this difference in twisting … neutrino ! ( Actually , he called them neutron first , but someone else had already arrogate that name so it was changed to neutrino . )
The video focuses less on history and more on creative solutions experimental physicist have to come up with to detect neutrino — like using the entire continent of Antartica to detect them . view it . Get smart . [ Minute Physics ]
