The discovery of a newfangled eccentric of frog has at long last revealed the exact coinage of the world ’s most darling amphibian . Besides the striking family resemblance , Hyalinobatrachium dianaealso stand out for having tegument on its underside so translucent that its organs are seeable .
H. dianae’sdiscovery was harbinger inZootaxaby Brian Kubicki , founder of theCosta Rican Amphibian Research Center , who disappointingly opt to honor his mother , Janet Diana Kubicki , rather thanJim Hensonwith the name . This decision is somewhat reedemed by its popular soubriquet : Diane ’s Bare - Hearted Glassfrog .

Despite misinformationspread by schmooze shows , the frog ’s native home ground is the mid - altitude rainforest of eastern Costa Rica , not swampland .
Kubicki attributes the loser to discover such a brightly colored batrachian before now to its strange mating call , which he toldThe Tico Timeshas a metal sound more potential to be associate with an worm than an amphibious aircraft .
Like otherHyalinobatrachium , H. dianaeis a glassfrog , one of over a hundred species to feature the translucent skin , whose evolutionary welfare remains unexplained . Central America in oecumenical , and Costa Rica in particular , is a blistering spot for these creatures . Based on genetic analysis , the discoverers draw the closest relative asH. chirripoi , which whileshowing some family line resemblanceis never likely to be confused with the famous muppet .
Kubicki and his colleagues ascertain just six specimens , too few to appraise the orbit of the new mintage or whether it is queer . However , one commentator on the Tico Times website suppose , “ This was awe-inspiring to read . I had this frog on my branch when rebuff waterfalls in the mount above Tres Rios , Coronado [ west of the home ground the biologists identified ] just 2 weeks ago . None of us had ever date it before and our toad did not need to leave us . It just love advert on and rest with us . ” certainly sounds like Kermit to us .
