Sophie Turneris opening up about her “lovely” husband-to-beJoe Jonas— and how their love story began with one simple message.
“We had a lot of mutual friends. And they’d been trying to introduce us for a long time,” the actress shared in her May 2019 coverinterviewforHarper’s BazaarUK.
While the pair was following and keeping up to date with one another on social media, Jonas, 29, finally took the plunge and sent a hello to Turner’s inbox.
“We were following each other on Instagram and he direct-messaged me one fine day, out of the blue,” theGame of Thronesstar revealed to the outlet.

By December of that year, a source told PEOPLE, “They’redating exclusively,” and added, “He was playing the field, but he really likes her and is willing to settle down for her.”
At the start of 2017, Turnermade her relationship Instagram officialwhen she shared a photo of Jonas donning sunglasses, a backwards hat and holding a cigar while at the stern of a boat on open water. “Miami Daze,” Turner captioned the shot of her beau.
And after about a year of dating, Joepopped the questionin October 2017.
“He’s lovely. He’s just the funniest,” Turner toldHarper’s BazaarUKof Jonas.
She said of her musician fiancé: “You wouldn’t expect he’s about to turn 30 this year. He’s the most fun, energetic, positive person I’ve ever seen. I’m pessimistic, so we balance each other out.”

Currently, the engaged couple is in the process of wedding planning.
And while Jonas’ younger brother Nick — who was also thefirst one to send a social media messageto now-wife Priyanka Chopra — and his sister-in-law had anover-the-top weddingin India last year, Turner is planning a much more “intimate” celebration.
“We’re trying to keep it [the wedding] as low-key as possible so it’s more of an intimate thing,” she toldHarper’s BazaarUKof their upcoming nuptials.
Earlier this month, Turner credited Jonas forhelping her find herselfand for bringing “happiness” into her life.
“I think for the longest time I didn’t have a real sense of myself. I had a bit of an identity crisis where I was playing all these people and I’d grown up faster than I probably should have done,” shetoldGlamour U.K. for a cover story. “I hadn’t been able to experience university, or just spend a lot of time with friends, so for a while, I kept thinking, ‘Who am I?’ “
It wasn’t until Turner started dating Jonas that she said her life began to change for the better.
“A lot of [my happiness now] is to do with being with a person I’ve fallen in love with, who loves me more than he loves himself, and who wants to see me find my own happiness,” she shared.
“That was probably the biggest thing that pushed me to find who I am — and find my happiness in things other than acting,” she added.
