If you have n’t finished watchingStranger Things , turn back now . And if you have , and are still mourning Barb ’s dying , the latterly free construct artwork from Aaron Sims Creative wo n’t make you find much better .
In a late consultation withScreen Crush , Sims shared some of the original concept art he and his team created forStranger thing , including designs for the Demogorgon , the Upside Down , and those cryptic eggs Hopper discovers in the conclusion . He also shared some pretty horrifying concept art for the death of fan favorite theatrical role Barb .
The two illustration show Barb ’s death as the directing duo , the Duffer Brothers , originally imagined it . In the first instance ( which can be seenhere ) , Barb lie on the ground with her ribs poking out of her chest . In the second , equally alarm image feature below , a spider crawls out of her oral fissure . grant to Sims , the first image was project “ to play up the horrific look of Barb being eaten , ” while the 2d directly follow the Duffer Brothers ’s original version of the playscript . “ In the handwriting for that instalment , there was specifically a description of a spider do out of her mouth , which we incorporated into the intent of that 2d shot , ” Sims explain . “ We do n’t really have an explanation for its world ; the conception is base around the script ’s description . ”
In the end , Sims and the Duffer Brothers add up up with a slightly less graphic — though no less traumatizing — way of life to present Barb ’s demise . But it was n’t because they felt they ’d gone too far . “ In the final design , they ended up cut aside from that because it became too unrecognizable , ” Sims explained . “ It was difficult to tell exactly what had happen to her ; it was n’t an event of it being too graphic , but rather , that the viewer needed to see something that was very recognizably beat . ”
